With the Flashlight NG the functionalities of the flashlight used so far are to be preserved and guaranteed. Luminance and luminous period are to be improved in order to meet today’s operational requirements. The autonomous power supply is to be improved with respect to economic efficiency, availability and environmental protection.

With the Flashlight NG the troops are to be provided furthermore with a small mobile light source. It is used to mark one’s own position, to read documents and maps, to illuminate rooms and identify persons under bad lighting conditions.

As its predecessor system, the flashlight NG has to permit easy handling during training and operation. To mark marching columns the Flashlight NG must emit continuous white or red light. The Flashlight NG must be designed so that it can be easily attached to clothes and equipment without slipping.

With the specified compact construction it must be possible to hold the Flashlight NG well and safely in one hand and use it accordingly.

The Flashlight NG must be designed so that it can be correctly attached to a belt, rucksack, bag etc. by means of a carrying strap or bracket.

A safe, autonomous positioning of the Flashlight NG must make it possible to illuminate a map on a horizontal base, e.g. a table.

Operating the pressure switches must be possible with fingered gloves or mitts, but the controls must be protected against unintentional operation.

In order to accommodate the Flashlight NG existing stowage areas, compliance with the specified dimensions is mandatory.
