Description:

Background

The right to adequate food is a human right, as recognized in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 and reaffirmed in the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights in 1966. It provides a vision for all human beings to live in dignity, free from hunger, food insecurity and malnutrition. Since the 1996 World Food Summit in Rome, the right to adequate food has gained recognition as a strategic tool to fight hunger worldwide. Several countries have managed to improve their policies, laws and institutions to achieve progress in the realization of the right to food. Civil society organizations, associations and individuals worldwide have also built advocacy and monitoring capacity to hold governments accountable. In spite of evidence of progress, much needs to be done to make this right a universal reality.

This calls for a renewed global commitment, as well as continuous efforts by governments, civil society and the private sector. Building innovative partnerships will also be crucial.

The Project or initiative shall be relevant at global level and have a clear link to policy frameworks at continental or global level. Research projects are not considered.

— Promote innovative partnerships with the private sector to realize the right to adequate food.
