The municipal sewer manager is responsible for collecting the waste water from homes. The municipal sewer system runs up to a collector, which transports the wastewater to the sewage treatment plant (WWTP). In remote houses, the waste water is treated separately per house in an individual treatment installation (IBA) under the responsibility of the resident. The sewer manager can take over the management and placement of an IBA.
The municipality of Merelbeke manages the municipal sewer network, assisted by an external service provider. This support includes:

- conducting a wear study,
- drawing up a stormwater plan,
