Coventry University's Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (HLS) selects between 880-1000 students within each academic year to a suite of professional courses (as listed below). As these courses are all of a professional nature, and students gain not only an academic qualification but also a professional qualification and eligibility to register with the regulatory bodies. These include the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC for allied health professionals) and professional bodies such as the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists (CSP) and College of Occupational Therapists (COT).
As part of their course, there is a requirement for students to complete professional practice placements. This requires working in health, social care and private sector settings as well as voluntary and independent settings. All students are required to have an Occupational Health Assessment and have various vaccinations carried out in advance of them commencing their placements and in some cases during their placement.
