The overall aim of the assignment is to obtain more research based knowledge on variations in the use of resources and efficiency in how police districts solve assignments, as well development over time.
The project consists of two sub-projects. The goal of sub-project 1 is to get a better quantitative knowledge basis on resource use and efficiency in the police districts, including the Prosecution in the police. The assignment will connect register data in order to obtain new quantitative knowledge on how resources are used in the police, e.g., how grant increases are distributed between different assignments.
The goal of sub-project 2 is to analyse factors that can explain cost and efficiency differences in the department, i.e., analyses of central driving forces for the cost structure, also those that are outside the police's direct control such as population structure and organisational size. The assignment is to draft the finds in the light of existing research on resource use and efficiency in the public sector and experiences from studies of the police in other countries.
