Model financed by parents and school authorities to equip all pupils with mobile digital devices

The City of Wiesbaden has decided on a 1:1 equipment concept with iPads for all 5th grades of its secondary schools - Hauptschule, Mittelstufen, IG, Realschule, Sonderschulen and Gymnasium. This gives every student the opportunity to use a personal mobile device on a daily basis, both at school and at home, for school purposes and personal education. Private use should also be possible.

The purchase of the equipment is financed by parents with the participation of the city. The LHW supports all legal guardians with a subsidy per pupil based on a project duration of 48 months. 10 € are set as the monthly contribution of the parents. The difference is financed by the municipal subsidy.

Deviating from this, the LHW will fully cover the costs of the device and the named additional services or accessories in the case of pupils who can prove that they are entitled to benefits after education and participation (SGB II and XII) by means of a notice of achievement. The proportion of BuT beneficiaries is estimated at at least 30%. Proof of BuT purchase is provided by the client directly to the contractor.

The project will start in the 1st half of the 2023/2024 school year from the award of the contract, probably in October 2023, for the then 6th grades of the respective secondary school. The implementation of the following year will begin in the 2nd half of the year (1.2.2024) of the school year 2023/24 for the then 5th grades. For both cohorts, the project ends on 31.1.2028.
