In the operating area of the Zurich S-Bahn, platform extensions will be necessary in the Zürcher Oberland (Effretikon – Wetzikon) corridor until 2035 due to the current trend in demand. The platform extensions in this corridor are required by 2028 at the latest and are assumed to have been implemented in advance in AS 2035.

Today the S3 is the busiest line with double-decker rolling stock with a maximum length of 200 m. In order to be able to meet today's demand as well as future demand forecasts, ZVV and SBB-P are planning to use 300 meters of compositions. System adjustments are required in Fehraltorf, Pfäffikon ZH, Kempten and Wetzikon.
