The majority of the heat generation plants at the Frankfurt site are currently operated with fossil fuels. In the short to medium term, some of the existing refrigeration and heat generation systems will reach the end of their technical service life or will no longer be operated for technical reasons. In addition, there are increased demands on the cooling supply infrastructure of the data center located in the West Arcade. KfW is therefore planning a comprehensive modernisation of its heating and cooling supply systems, including the associated infrastructure, as well as the full expansion of the photovoltaic potential of the available roof areas, KfW's own buildings.

The subject of the tender process is the associated MEP planning services.

As part of the Climate-Neutral Location Concept 2030, KfW is therefore planning a comprehensive modernisation of its heating and heating systems.

In this procedure KfW-2023-0050 (Lot 2), this is work package 6 – Conversion of the heating network (Lot 3).

This work package includes the concept development, planning and implementation of the

key technical measures to decarbonise the heat supply at the

Location: Frankfurt.

According to current estimates, these include:

- Use of the waste heat from the refrigeration network by means of a heat pump

- Use of geothermal energy by means of heat pumps

- Integration of the Senckenberg system into the heating network or separate heat pump for this property

- Construction of a district heating connection to cover the peak load in the heating network

- Adaptation of the waste heat utilization of the data center or reinforcement of the cooling generation of the west arcade

- Construction of a heat pump for the tenants' area in the Ostarkade (13 rental apartments)

As a result of the expansion of the above-mentioned heat generation plants, the classic heat generators such as gas boilers and, if necessary, the CHP plant will be gradually dismantled.

The planning also includes the replacement of existing air conditioning systems with those with integrated heat pump technology. However, the actual replacement will take place at a later date as part of repair measures that are not yet planned.
