Infrabel plans to build two new sidings along the existing line L53 Dendermonde-Mechelen between Winningstraat (Dendermonde) and Mandekensstraat (Lebbeke).
The construction of these tracks is necessary to be able to accommodate freight trains with a maximum length of 740 m
On the Belgian rail network. These long freight trains must have the possibility of being deported.
The province of East Flanders and the municipalities of Dendermonde and Lebbeke also want to extend the F44 (Ghent-Dendermonde-Mechelen) and F19 (Dendermonde-Boom) cycle routes.
These works include in main order:
- partial removal of the existing L52 museum line (approximately 1 km);
- the laying of around 2 km of new electrified track (work on the platform, track, catenary and cables);
- the installation of four safety dead ends;
- construction of ditches and drainage massifs for the drainage of the new platform and other coverings;
- the development of approximately 2.5 km of cycle route;
- the construction of three new aqueducts under the track and the extension of two existing aqueducts;
- partial adaptation and displacement of category 2 and 3 watercourses;
- construction of a medium voltage substation and a 1 kV substation;
- construction of two PLP signaling posts;
- adaptation of the N41 overpass by creating a retaining structure.
