In spring 2020, the city of Wiehl submitted an application to the federal government for funding for nationwide broadband expansion in the underserved areas. In March 2020, the city received a preliminary funding decision from the federal government. The focus is on connecting schools. The corresponding procedural steps for receiving funding have been initiated. According to the requirements of the federal funding guidelines, the search for a network operator who also builds and operates the infrastructure requires the implementation of an award procedure. Therefore, the city of Wiehl advertises in the profitability gap model to search for a network operator who will also build the infrastructure.
