Barrow Borough Council is seeking a partner to operate its leisure facilities which are currently run in-house. The Council's ambition for leisure provision is for leisure facilities available to all residents, contributing to local health and well-being in the Borough. At the same time the Council is seeking to reduce its leisure subsidy and liabilities from 1.8.2018. Further information is set out in section II.2.4) and the SSQ.
The Council is seeking an experienced leisure operator partner to manage Park Leisure Centre in Barrow-in-Furness for a 15-year contract. The centre is currently run in-house and includes:
— 25 m main pool;
— Leisure pool;
— Sports hall;
— Health and fitness facilities including gym and studios;
— Climbing wall;
— Children's gym and soft play.
The form of contract will be based on the Sport England standard leisure operating contract as amended to take into account the specific requirements of the project. A suitable form of lease of the leisure centre will also be granted to the operator as part of the suite of contract documentation. The operator partner will deliver the Council's Priority Outcomes for health and well-being.
