Weapons and ammunition disposal services. In support of MoD's strategy to have in place alternative routes for the disposal of surplus/ shelf life expired munitions across the full munitions inventory, the Defence General Munitions Project Team (DGM PT) is seeking expressions of interest, in providing a task based disposal service for up to five years, via an enabling Contract for munition transportation from depots in United Kingdom and Germany for subsequent disposal of ammunition in a safe, environmentally responsible and cost effective way. This task based service is specifically intended to provide a flexible option to dispose of mixed natures in economic tranches, sometimes at relatively short notice. It is not intended to replicate or duplicate the 'Housekeeping' disposal service for which the DGM PT is already contractually committed through the QinetiQ LTPA. Similarly, individual PTs will normally separately compete individual logistic disposal requirements as required.
Disposal must be undertaken in accordance with applicable UK, national and EU legislation. Opportunities for recovery and recycling of components/fillings are to be maximised and at a level not less than 50% by weight. The use of open burning or open detonation as a disposal technique within this Contract will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances such as immediate safety concerns with the express consent of MoD. A proven safety record is also required.
Expressions of interest are to be submitted via e-mail to DESWpnsDGM-ComrclMultiuser@mod.uk. These should include details of capability, capacity, security and expertise based on a proven track record. DGM PT requires an experienced single contractor, preferably with a UK representative, with a full range of compliant and appropriate facilities in order to manage the entire range of requirements.
For the purpose of this Contract the MoD requires all suppliers to be in possession of extant ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certification or equivalent and the necessary National permits for munitions disposal. A copy of your certificates should be provided with your expression of interest.
