The Saarbrücken Regional Association (client) intends to award planning services for the new construction, conversion and renovation of the Quierschied Community School, service phases 1 to 6 of the structural design in accordance with § 51 HOAI in conjunction with Annex 14.1 to the HOAI.
In the regional assembly of 29.06.2017 it was decided to convert the community school into a tied all-day school. Since the school year 2019 /20, the tied all-day school Quierschied is under construction. By 2023, the school will have achieved its goal and about 425 children will be taught in the all-day school. The school no longer meets the energetic and pedagogical requirements. For the expansion to an all-day school, the reorganization of the classroom structure is particularly necessary.
In order to implement the pedagogical concept of the all-day school, learning landscapes, differentiation rooms, leisure rooms, extension of the catering area (dining room and kitchen) must be created and the biology, physics and chemistry rooms restructured and renewed.
The building services of the existing building, in particular the electrical system and the toilet facilities on the ground and 1st floor, must be renewed. The cabling for digitization must take place in parallel with the renovation. The building complex of the hall with the three-storey porch was statically examined, the load-bearing structure is in very good condition, only the rooms in the basement below the schoolyard are damp and with further use a concrete renovation must be carried out. In the area of the central heating system and the crawl space there are also some places that need to be renovated.
The static substance of the swimming pool has no damage, so a chloride test was carried out (see procurement documents) to rule out that the steel was attacked by the chlorine.
A supply shaft, which runs parallel to the hall at the height of the 2nd basement floor, and the building services room must be preserved.
The basement in the area of the schoolyard and the coal bunker has been statically checked and can be built over one or two storeys. The renovation of the school building (accessibility, fire protection, digital infrastructure) can only be carried out in sections, the outsourcing of the classrooms to the new building is a prerequisite for this. What is required is an overall design concept for the gym and school building area, including the school's already renovated shell.
The implementation of the construction project is planned in construction phases and during ongoing school operations.
1st construction phase:
- New building as an extension for classrooms, scientific rooms, administration wing
- Renovation of the gymnasium and conversion of the swimming pool into a canteen, leisure rooms and music rooms
2nd construction phase:
- Renovation of existing buildings
The following points should be taken into account:
• Development of floor plan and building structures that offer the best possible functionality for the construction task.
• Resource-saving construction through an appropriate supporting structure, building cubature • Minimization of energy demand and energy costs – also taking into account costs for the maintenance and renewal of technical systems • Building material concept that takes into account all aspects of sustainable construction • Barrier-free access to the school building and the gymnasium • Attractive urban and school design.
Further details on the objectives can be found in the building description and in the space programme (see procurement documents).
