Tubular inspection services for the drilling of a 4 500 m deep deviated well in granite. The program is due to take a total of 150 days. EGL’s requirements are set out in detail in the tender documents.

Main objectives of the tubular inspection services being tendered:

— safety during tubular inspections on site,

— environmental protection,

— efficiency,

Inspection services for tubular (drill pipe) and drill stem elements to identify:

— crack indications in threads,

— crack indication in box connections,

— crack indication in outside upsets,

— galled threads,

— pulled threads,

— over-torqued threads,

— galled seals,

— seal damage to shoulders,

— pitting/corrosion,

— washouts in connections,

— unacceptable wear of OD of box connections and hard banding.

There will be three different phases for inspection services:

Phase 1: Random drill pipe and drill stem acceptance inspections

All tubular and drill stem material from the drilling contractor will come with a valid DS1 Cat 4 inspection. EGL intends to perform on site an initial random picking control inspection (according to DS1 Cat 4) of about 5-10 % of the drill pipe and 15-20 % of the drill stem elements of the drilling contractor as soon as they are delivered on location. This initial random picking inspection will be at the discretion and expense of EGL. During this initial random picking inspection on site all material must qualify as double white band service. If this is not the case - at the Drilling Contractor's expense — all drill pipes must be inspected again on site according to DS1 Cat 4.

Phase 2: Various control inspections while drilling

These inspections on drill pipe and drill stem elements, their timing and scope will be based on rotating hours, drilling conditions and observations of the drilling personnel. On request of EGL, such field inspections shall be performed on a call out basis at the EGL drill and test site according to API RP7G-2 (alternatively DS1 Cat 3).

Phase 3: Final inspection

A final inspection of the whole drill string and all drill stem elements of the drilling contractor according to DS1 Cat 4 will have to be performed on site after the drilling operations have been completed.

To facilitate the evaluation of this tender, EGL has created inspection packages for each of the three phases described above. These packages, which are set out in full in the tender documents, correspond to the inspection needs as anticipated for planning purposes and may deviate in practice. Please see the tender documents for information.
