Description:
remote-controlled towing vehicle

Technical specifications:

A remote-controlled towing vehicle, which is to be procured for underwater measurements in the range of a few to max. 400 m depths, is to be procured. The installed CTD probe(s) shall contain the following sensors: conductivity, temperature and depth, additional external sensors for the measurement of oxygen, turbidity and chlorophyll shall be installed on the towing vehicle.

The aim is to carry out scientific oceanographic measurements and a wide variety of surveying work effectively and efficiently.

The remotely operated towing vehicle shall have different modes in order to be able to carry out measurement runs at a certain horizontal depth, at a fixed distance from the seabed and undulating (sawtooth-shaped, ascending and descending).

In addition, the remote-controlled towing vehicle must have a 3D control system that provides the ability to independently navigate horizontally through the water body.

At ship speeds of 6 to 10 knots, larger areas must be able to be recorded three-dimensionally and measured in high resolution. The remote-controlled towing vehicle must have a modular and expandable design in order to install additional measuring sensors and cameras, etc. to be able to install it at a later date so that it can be adapted to new scientific questions.

In order to be able to use the remote-controlled towing vehicle to its full extent, a compatible winch and additional navigation software must be supplied.

These must be described in detail by the bidder in his offer. The winch must be able to hold and pull the remote-controlled towing vehicle in accordance with the above-mentioned purpose.

Since the components must be compatible with each other, the overall system must be offered by a bidder as a complete system.

Preamble

The Helmholtz-Zentrum hereon GmbH (Hereon) is a non-profit research institution and one of the 18 member institutions of the Hermann von Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres. 90% of the expenses of the Hereon are financed by the federal government (BMBF - Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and 10% by the four consortium states (Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Brandenburg).

The statutory task of the society is to conduct research and development in a multidisciplinary network, especially in the fields of materials research, coastal, climate and environmental research as well as regenerative medicine.

For our coastal research, remote-controlled towing vehicles are to be procured.
