The objective of ‘The Magic Factory’ [Den Magiske Fabrikken] is to increase the biogas production in Norway. This occurs by creating environment and resource optimal value chains for biogas, and strengthen the market position for biogas and bio fertilizer.
Biogas production with utilisation of biogas as fuel for vehicles and production of bio fertilizer, is a god utilisation of wet organic waste and manure. To ensure sustainable value chains for biogas and bio fertilizer, it is important to both increase access to substrates (resources), ensure efficient production, good utilisation of the biogas and the bio fertilizer, that the quality of the bio fertilizer is sufficient for use in food production and that the environment and resource efficiency of biogas and bio fertilizer is well documented and traceable in the market.
The factory’s vision is a transformation of food waste and domestic animal manure to biogas without emissions or leave behind waste materials that are not usable.
Effort are being made to increase access to substrates from different sectors, analyses and processes that ensure quality of bio fertilizer throughout traceability in the value chain. Solutions are also being developed and assessed to utilise the CO2 gas from biogas production as a replacement for fossil CO2. Based on life cycle analyses of the biogas value chains, further systems are being developed for environmental declaration of biogas, which is used by the sector for marketing of biogas and bio fertilizer. Systems are also being developed for guarantee of origin for biogas that is blended with natural gas.
As a further development of the factory at Rygg, Line 2 must now be implemented, which entails a redoubling of the plant production. A number of building and technical improvements shall also be implemented for i.a. safeguarding of the external environment.
A garden centre (nursery) shall also be built for experimental operation related to CO2 utilisation.
