The division of fluid and experimental mechanics at Luleå University of Technology (Luleå, Sweden) will acquire a 3D X-ray Microtomography system (X-ray MicroCT, X-ray Microscope), hereafter referred to as the XMT-system. The XMT-system will mainly be used in research, for in-situ studies of various materials (incl. minerals, rocks, polymers and wood), and microstructural interaction processes that take place inside these materials when exposed to mechanical, thermal and hydrologic loads. The XMT-system shall allow 3D imaging and characterization of materials, microstructures and deformation mechanisms at a number of different length scales. A flexible XMT-system that allows a range of resolution and contrast possibilities on a range of sample types and sample sizes and with long term stability is thus required.
