In the course of the increased digitization in the area of administration and schools, the existing SAN infrastructure must be expanded and partially renewed,

to provide a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure in the future.

Please note:

In 2015, a SAN infrastructure was put out to tender for the city administration.

Since components now have to be procured new and replaced, this is a systemically important situation. Therefore, a technology-neutral tender must be refrained from.

The SAN components have focused on Dell EMC and Cisco even after the initial purchase in recent years.

Due to the existing Cisco UCS server infrastructure and the know-how provided for this purpose (including management and troubleshooting), the existing infrastructure - especially for personnel and economic reasons - is to be expanded on a Cisco UCS infrastructure basis. Many components of the existing infrastructure are to remain in operation. The same applies to Brocade-based SAN switch infrastructure, which is also to be supplemented by components from the manufacturer Brocade for the above reasons.

Central management must be able to be carried out with the existing tools.

In the event of a deviation, a standardized rollout would therefore not be possible.

In addition, a large part of the existing hardware components, in conjunction with the SAN switches of the manufacturer Brocade, which have already been installed in the server rooms of the city administration, can continue to be used. Thus, there are no significant follow-up costs.

One aspect of sustainability is the full applicability of the devices over the entire life cycle. Since identical components are already used in the server rooms, there is the greatest possible redundancy. The exchange of assemblies, e.g. due to faults or changes, is therefore given at any time. This results in the reduction of follow-up costs for maintenance, training and system maintenance. The overall efficiency of the infrastructure is also significantly increased.
