Description:
Quay 23, middle pier and Ro-Ro bearings

The project, named ADP Fredericia Havn A/S – Kaj 23, middle pier and Ro-Ro tenant, concerns the expansion of ADP's Ro-Ro facilities in the Port of Fredericia with 2 new Ro-Ro bearings located at new Kaj 23, located between the current Kaj 22 and Kaj 24. Overall, the establishment of Kaj 23 involves an approx. 200 m long central pier/bropier as well as a Ro-Ro bed on both sides of the middle pier, and an associated rear area that forms a connection with the other port areas in the area.

The project consists of expansion around the existing coastline, where filling is required to allow driving to/from the RO/RO vessels, and ensure coherence to the existing areas for warehouses. The fill is reclaimed behind steel piles and two RO/RO bearings are established.

As part of the project, the existing Kaj 23 will be demolished, which today serves as a chemical quay for DanFertilizer and Nippon Gases. Chemical quay will be restored in connection with the new pier.

In addition, a pier will be established, which, for minimal dredging work, will be carried out as a reinforced concrete bridge deck on steel pipe piles. The pier is performed with a length of about 200 m and a width of 18 m. The bridge deck will be built in a bulkhead +2.5 m to ensure optimal conditions for the ship sizes expected to call at the pier (RO/RO and chemical ships). In addition, a tyre in kote +2.5 m ensures against the most extreme events.

The total length allows ships of up to 200 m to enter.

On both sides of the centre pier, reinforced concrete RO/RO ramps will be established, with a width of 30 m. The ramps are, in dialogue with the users, adapted to the ships expected to call at the ramps.

Both bearings are designed for a water depth of 10.2 m, which means deepening in the inner part. In addition, there must be elaborates due to poor foundation conditions. Where there is the lowest water depth, erosion protection is installed to counteract the influence of the ships' screw water.

The entire quay area is made with asphalt pavement, and the middle pier is fitted with lighting masts, pipelines and the like.

A lifetime of 50 years is generally expected for the structures, with expected ongoing maintenance during the period. In connection with the design of the new plant, account has been taken of a potential sea level rise over the next 25-30 years of the order of 25 cm, just as account has also been taken of expected closures of the quays, etc. over the next 25-30 years in the order of 20-25 cm.
