The National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) and the Clinic for Hematology, Oncology and Rheumatology (Innere Med. V) of Heidelberg University Hospital (UKHD) are planning to set up a state-of-the-art biobank ("NCT/CLB Biobank") with the integration of an -80° C large warehouse (Automated Storage System, hereinafter abbreviated as ASA) with fully automatic sample storage, retrieval and sample compilation via an automatic picking system.

Initially, the storage of 2 million samples in the ASA is planned. However, the storage capacity of the system is to be gradually expanded in the coming years or depending on demand.
