BRU is on the one hand renewing the infrastructure of the existing Light Rail connection between Utrecht and Nieuwegein and IJsselstein (LRUNIJ-line) and on the other hand realising a new line, the Uithofline. Both lines will be interconnected at Utrecht Central Station (CS) in the so-called OV (Public Transport) Terminal (OVT).

This project concerns the renewal of the signalling equipment on the existing LRUNIJ line, composed of two endpoints, one junction (both planned for 2018), entrance / exit to the depot area (2013) and the depot itself. The depot will firstly be renewed (2013) and reconstructed at a later stage (2016).

The construction of the Uithof line is foreseen in the period 2015-2016, while the OV Terminal will be realised in 2016.

The year 2017 is used to test the new (low floor) rolling stock for the Uithof line. This rolling stock needs access to the depot of the existing line.
