Møhlenpris school was designed by the city architect, Kaspar Hassel, and was built in 1911–1912. The building is worthy of preservation. The main building was constructed in three full floors with two two-storey wings + basement and attic. The school's floor area is approximately 4 600 m
The City Government Department for Nurseries and Schools (BBS) has an order dated 24.2.2012 including a room programme with annexes explaining what construction is desired: Annex II.4.
Over the years, various technical reports have been written to identify the measures needed to map out what should be done to get the school certified for health services. A report is attached for orientation, Annex II.6. This report was prepared at a time when the intention was to use the the building as a school only.
In 2011, the Development Department prepared a feasibility study for a development centre which analysed various alternative solutions to accommodate the various functions (school, kindergarten, immigrant language). Alternative 2 stands out as the most interesting, and will be further developed: Annex II.5. When the ‘Møhlenpris development centre’ project starts up, the project will be re-examined and an assessment made about which studies are required in order to create an adequate foundation for satisfactorily carrying out the this planning. The building will be completely renovated to modern requirements and standards in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. To the extent possible, an attempt will be made to achieve low-energy standards or better. Consideration shall be given to applying to Enova for support. The building is connected to district heating.
Cultural Heritage Management Office will create ‘Antiquarian documentation’ which will be an important working document for the design team. The document will be available in September 2013. The Cultural Heritage Management Office and heritage authorities will be key partners, and considerable effort from them may be counted on, especially from the architect. The reference project is the New Krohnborg School, which has recently been completed renovated.
