Description:
CENSUS PROGRAM AND BIOLOGICAL MONITORING OF THREATENED FAUNA IN THE REGION OF MURCIA

The purpose of the Contract is to obtain biological information on the conservation status of priority species of threatened fauna that are part of the catalog of threatened species in the Region of Murcia and other species of fauna protected by regional, national legislation

and Community in this area. These works are framed in the requirements and obligations that the Autonomous Communities have recognized in the field of their autonomous competences and that must be carried out by the General Directorate of the Natural Environment.

Biological censuses of fauna are the basic tool in the field of biodiversity conservation to know the situation of the populations of the most representative species, especially those with an unfavorable and/or threatened conservation status. The size of the population in its range of distribution of these species and its evolution or trend over time are key aspects to determine what kind of actions and measures environmental administration has to develop in order to reverse this unfavorable conservation status or correct the threat factors that affect these species. All actions included in this work of monitoring and protecting wildlife species will contribute to the promotion of the protection of biodiversity and nature, including the Natura 2000 network. The program of biological censuses of the fauna focuses specifically on the group of vertebrates that are part of the Regional Catalog of Threatened Species of Annex I of Law 7/1995 of Wild Fauna of the Region of Murcia, Royal Decree 139/2011, of February 4, for the development of the List of Wild Species in Special Protection Regime and the Spanish Catalog of

Threatened species and species included in the Annexes of the Community Birds and Habitats Directives. The information obtained from the species has to be implemented in databases together with associated geographic information systems that are subject to periodic analysis for a continuous evaluation of the changes that affect them.
