EU network in classic mobile communications architecture
EU network in classical mobile communications architecture: Mobile mobile network used for technologically oriented research as part of the 5G Kaiserslautern project at the Chair of Radio Communications and Navigation at the RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau. In the project, 5G campus networks are being implemented, which are intended to replicate both private campus networks and public networks. Among other things, applications in the fields of logistics, cooperating autonomous machines and vehicles, event technology, production and automation, transport and agriculture are being tested.
The networks will be used exclusively for research purposes, i.e. no public services will be offered.
The portfolio of existing networks is to be expanded to include a portable network in order to better reflect the current mobile communications market. With growing tensions on the world market, the discussion about the technological sovereignty of the EU is being discussed more and more. Therefore, the performance of EU solutions with classical mobile radio architecture (in contrast to O-RAN and small cells solutions) with the network to be procured will be investigated. There are two providers from the EU in this area, Nokia and Ericsson. Since Nokia's mobile networks already exist at the RPTU, this manufacturer is no longer an option and therefore the technology from Ericsson is planned.
