The measure is located in the market town of Elsenfeld, which belongs to the Lower Franconian district of Miltenberg.

Obernburg-Elsenfeld station (Lower Franconia, Bavaria) is located in the DB Netz AG network on line 5220 at km 18.5 in the section between Aschaffenburg and Miltenberg. This is a single-track, non-electrified main line that is not part of the conventional Trans-European Railway Network (TEN). According to the VzG of line 5220, the maximum speed on the through track (Eq. 202) is 120 km/h.

The reconstruction of the Obernburg-Elsenfeld station will be carried out in two construction phases as well as prior clearance of the construction site, starting with the first construction phase with the southern section of the central platform including the elevator shaft and west access. In the second construction phase after the start of use of the southern section, the northern section of the central platform will be renewed and shortened. Prior to the start of construction phase 1, new cable ducts including empty conduits for cable rerouting in order to clear the construction site in the area of the new elevator shaft are to be carried out during construction phase 0.
