Houten's unique core quality is the spatial structure of a village linked to the size of a city with more than 50,000 inhabitants. The basis for this is a traffic structure in which the priority at the urban level is on the cyclist and the pedestrian in combination with two high-quality public transport hubs with connections to Utrecht and by bus to the region. Within Houten there is a reluctant role for car traffic. This whole has been translated into a more organically shaped spatial structure and not so much into an orthogonal allotment. This urban structure is specific to Houten. This combined with space for greenery and predominantly low-rise buildings results in a pleasant living climate where small scale and security are central.
