The contract to be awarded concerns planning and construction services for structural work and finishing works for the new building of the Thomas Edison secondary school, Schlüterstraße 18/20, in 40235 Düsseldorf. The contractor must construct the new school building with a gross floor area of 9,719 m² and the sports hall with a gross floor area of 2,246 m². The new building is due to be completed by December 2024. The contract is awarded to a general contractor, who will also take over the planning from HOAI performance phase 5 onwards. The kitchen equipment is one of the services provided by the general contractor.

The measure includes the construction of the 4-train secondary school for 720 SUs as well as around 50 employees (teachers, social pedagogues, secretariat, caretaker, etc.) with an auditorium, canteen, caretaker's apartment with approx. 95m² of living space and a 2-compartment sports hall.

The central main access is located on Schlüterstraße. The common areas such as the foyer and auditorium, conference room, etc. as well as the administration are directly connected to this. On the ground floor, there is room for further uses such as storage and ancillary rooms, kitchen and the caretaker's apartment. A total of four stairwells on the outer façade serve the internal access to all levels. The staircase attached to the main entrance also receives a lift (cabin size 1.10m x 2.10m), which serves all floors of the building. All rooms in the building are therefore barrier-free. The general teaching areas as well as the specialist rooms for the 720 SUs in total are located on the upper floors. With the exception of some subject rooms, they are organized as a cluster in which there are four classrooms, two differentiation rooms and a shared open learning zone.
