Jisc Services Ltd (JSL) has a large digital image collection including 19th and 20th Century still images, moving images and sound recordings across a variety of subject areas but particularly strong in the humanities, creative and performing arts and communication and media studies. This material has been purchased or licenced by JSL over the years and is copyright cleared for educational use so teachers and students can be confident that they are not breaching copyright when using it.
JSL are looking for a search and discovery service to allow users to search the metadata and view the video and images files in an easy to use way replacing and improving upon the service already in place.
The content includes high profile digital collections such as ITN News archives, and a selection of images from organisations such as Getty Images and the Wellcome Trust Library. A number of these collections are unique, such as the ITN news footage, and to our knowledge cannot be accessed for academic use anywhere else. For more details of the collections see Section 3.1 below.
Our users are students and staff across all subject areas both in HE and FE. The collection does cover a broad range of subject but is stronger in some subject areas: arts and humanities, politics, media, cultural studies, art and design. Engineering is also covered through IET.tv collection that is part of this service
These resources are currently made available to students and academic staff via the MediaHub service managed by Edina for Jisc http://jiscmediahub.ac.uk/. This service is due to retire at the end of July 2016 and a replacement service to make available these valuable resources to our users is required.
