1) Provision of external functional skills teacher at infantry training centre (for non Ghurka recruits),

2) Provision of external functional skills teacher at infantry training centre (for Ghurka recruits),

3) Cultural awareness training at infantry training centre (for Ghurka recruits).

Gurkha: FS education up to a minimum of EL3 reading and Writing and L1 speaking and listening and the development of UK culture and awareness. This element to run from March to September each year. Course culminates in UK National FS assessments. Teachers will deliver a predominantly adult literacy core curriculum supported by ESOL methods to non UK learners. Anticipated volume is for 324 students in 18 classes of class size 12. These numbers are anticipated for the first year of contract and may vary thereafter.

Non-Gurkha: FS education maths and english up to and including EL3 for those recruits who are initially assessed by the army at entry L2 and/or cannot provide their qualifications at EL3. Anticipated student numbers are unlikely to exceed more than 400 per annum. Teacher to student ratio should not exceed 18 students per teacher. 3 Teachers will be required for this element. Examinations to be conducted through a recognised national awarding body.
