The B 187 takes over an important regional / national connection function as a feeder to the A 9 and as a connection to the upper center Dessau-Roßlau and is therefore classified in connection function level LS II. The route currently runs through the towns of Jessen, Listerfehrda, Elster, Iserbegka and Mühlanger. The B 187 is to be newly built as a bypass for Jessen-Listerfehrda-Elster-Iserbegka-Mühlanger to make it easier for heavy goods traffic, to reach national centers more quickly and to improve the quality of living in the towns. Furthermore, the bypass significantly strengthens the area in its attractiveness as a business location. Traffic noise is reduced for cyclists, pedestrians and, above all, residents and the potential for conflict and accidents is reduced.
