Whilst discussing the finance plan for 2009-12, the town council in Drammen municipality decided on a long-term commitment to development the Fjell town district up until 2020. The commitment has a high priority in the municipality. One of the aims is to create a new town district centre, where municipal services and activities, as well as resource mobilisation amongst the local population, can contribute to making Fjell an attractive and lively town district by 2020.
The construction projects that are covered by this competition mostly consist of achieving this aim. They represent the main part of the development and modernisation of the town district's central areas and will be a significant contribution to characterising the future Fjell.
The development area comprises a large area between Lauritz Hervigsvei and Laurits Grønlandsvei, 3035 Drammen. (Cadastral no./Title no. 24/24).
The assignment will consist of 2 sub-projects with the accompanying outside areas.
I: Fjell Activity centre/multi-purpose hall.
II: Fjell school, expansion and renovation with outside areas.
I. Activity centre and multi-purpose hall (approx. 3 402 m² gross, new building).
The building complex consists of 2 connected buildings: One standard multi-purpose hall with changing rooms and an activity centre that includes the town district's library, a banqueting hall, cafe and activity hall for the town district and school. The functions will be split between 3 floors.
II. Fjell school: (New building, renovation and demolition work).
The school currently consists of 7 free-standing school buildings/pavilions and has approx. 600 pupils.
The project includes:
— Demolition of 2 pavilions (A+D), approx. 2 456 m² gross,
— Establishment of a new building of approx. 4 025 m² gross (3rd floor),
— Total renvoation of 2 pavilions (B+C), which are to be connected to the new building, approx. 1 656 m² gross,
— Total renovation of the school's old gym hall, approx. 552 m² gross.
