The purpose of the contract is to continue a systematic monitoring of wolves in Denmark. The monitoring will provide the Danish Environmental Protection Agency with knowledge about the distribution and establishment of wolves in Denmark and the connection between the Danish wolf population and the rest of the Central European population, especially the population in Germany.
In 2012, the wolf re-immigrated to Denmark after almost 200 years of absence. In the first years thereafter, a number of stray wolves were detected, but when a pair of wolves established themselves in West Jutland at the end of 2016, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency initiated a national monitoring of the wolves in Denmark. The wolves in Denmark have thus been monitored from 1 November 2017 - 31 December 2023. With this tender, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency wishes to continue the national monitoring of wolves in Denmark.
