The Espoo City Rail Line project is part of the development of the Helsinki metropolitan area's public transport system. The project involves the construction of two additional tracks with bridges between Leppävaara and Kauklahti and the renewal of six stations.

Commuter and long-distance train services will be separated into separate tracks, which will enable the development of commuter traffic on the Rantarata railway and long-distance traffic between Helsinki and Turku. The procurement units of the project are the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency, the City of Espoo, the City of Kauniainen, HSY and Caruna.

The object of the procurement is to carry out construction work in area contract 1 of the Espoo City Rail Line project between Leppävaara and Kera.

Area contract 1 (AU1) of the Espoo City Rail Line project is located in the City of Espoo area on the Pasila-Kirkkonummi section between Leppävaara and Kera. The contract includes the construction of the city rail line and the City of Espoo's separate sites, as well as modifications to Caruna's 110 kV power line and water maintenance work by Helsinki Region Environmental Services Authority HSY, the content of which is specified in more detail in the contract documents. The construction work of area contract 1 includes, among other things, railway construction, bridge work, station area improvements, foundation reinforcement, excavation work, noise protection and retaining walls, as well as street and municipal engineering work. In addition, the contract includes the design and construction of an electricity supply station and an overpass bridge to be built in Kera.
