Description:

The service will be based in a defined geographical community and prison location. Its purpose is to provide a high quality, individually centred, effective and efficient support service for parents and carers of people who have substance misuse or alcohol problems.

To provide a service that is in line with the national drug strategy 2010 and seeks to promote and safeguard the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of parents are carers.

To provide advice, support and information about all aspects of substance misuse, information relating to treatment services, the range of helping agencies, welfare advice etc.

To provide training to parents and carers around dealing with substance misuse, coping strategies and self help.

To provide community based support groups, one-to-one counselling, one-to-one drop in sessions, and 24 hour helpline.

To provide support groups which are accessible to a range of carers and family members.

To provide some alternative therapies such as reflexology, aromatherapy, stress management etc.

To refer to other services which provide support to families, parents, carers.

To signpost to opportunities for periods of respite, attendance at relevant conferences etc.

To provide outreach services/home visits as appropriate.

To provide support to parents and carers of people with substance misuse or alcohol problems within HMP Wakefield and HMP & YOI New Hall.

To work in partnership with other organisations in and around the substance misuse field.
