Description:
Replacement construction of the Kriegenbrunn lock

The Kriegenbrunn sluice at waterway kilometer 48.66 of the Main-Danube Canal needs to be renewed. The new lock will be built right next to the old lock while shipping is still in operation, because this is the only way to keep the waterway connection from the North Sea to the Black Sea navigable during construction. With the lock project, the federal government is investing in the future of the waterway as a mode of transport.

A plan approval procedure including an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was carried out for approval for the new construction of the Kriegenbrunn lock. The planning approval decision became legally binding at the end of 2018.

The entire construction project is to be implemented by a general contractor.

The new construction of the complete lock including the savings pool, the new front ports and the connection to the sealed canal line will be announced. The order also includes the gates and locks of the lock, the complete drive and control technology, communication and electrical engineering systems, the construction of engineering buildings, and road and landscaping. The order also includes the creation of an intermediate floor storage facility in the immediate vicinity of the construction site and its operation until the lock system is completed.

The new building will be erected in an approx. 30 meter deep excavation pit, which must be deformed to protect the neighboring old lock. A stiffened, overlapping bored pile wall is provided for this.

The client has created his own planning for the overall measure, which is made available with the tender documents. For excavation, this client-side planning has the character of a planning proposal, a reference planning. The bidders can adopt this reference planning or base their own plans in whole or in part. The client's planning goals (including the security of the existing lock and the new lock, cost-effectiveness) must be taken into account and proven. The award procedure is to be carried out as a negotiated procedure. In this context, the bidder's plans should also be discussed.
