Nearly 1900 people work on the Viikki campus, and there are over 6000 students on campus. The campus houses the University Veterinary Hospital, the Viikki Research Facility and the Viikki Teacher Training School.

We request an offer for student and staff meals, catering to order and café services in the restaurant premises of Biocenter 1, 00790 Helsinki, located at Viikinkaari 9, 00790 Helsinki. Services will start after the renovation of the building's lobby and kitchen facilities in 2023-24, starting from the beginning of the autumn semester of 2024.

The restaurant premises and the equipment used in them are owned by Helsinki University Properties Ltd (HYK) and the University of Helsinki has leased the facilities and equipment for its use. The premises will be furnished and the kitchen will be equipped in connection with the renovation.

Restaurant operators must commit to complying with the regulations on student meals in their operations. (54/2012 Government Decree on the Grounds for Supporting Meals for Higher Education Students and Kela's Guidelines

The premises reserved for restaurant and café operations are located in the premises of Biocenter 1, address Viikinkaari 9, 00790 Helsinki. The manufacturing facilities, cold storage facilities and waste disposal facilities are located in the building, near the restaurant facilities on floors 1 and 2 of the building. Dining facilities can be found on the entrance floor of the building.

The University of Helsinki is responsible for furnishing the dining rooms.

Dishes, bed linen and kitchen utensils are purchased by the restaurant owner, as well as the POS system and other related equipment. The daily cleaning of floor surfaces in the dining rooms is arranged by the University of Helsinki, and the restaurant entrepreneur is responsible for cleaning the kitchen and auxiliary facilities, as well as cleaning the dining rooms during use and cleaning the loose furniture in the dining room. The restaurant entrepreneur is also responsible for the major cleaning of kitchen facilities twice a year.

It is estimated that approximately 800 portions of food will be sold per day. Café sales are brisk mainly during teaching periods.

Meeting and banquet catering is purchased by UH. The restaurant is estimated to cost about 80,000 euros per year. This consists of dining and coffee service, which are served in or near the event and gathering and communal spaces. In addition, there are also various festive events and course catering. In terms of the number of items, most of them are small coffee for 5–15 people, similar to catering for meetings. The number of catering for meetings and banquets varies from year to year.

The University of Helsinki reserves the right, if necessary, to separately procure catering and arrangements for events/special occasions from a party other than the main service provider of the building. The University of Helsinki reserves the right to allow small-scale café operations (e.g. in the street area in front of the building, in the lobby areas on a case-by-case basis).

In addition, the University of Helsinki reserves the right to offer its employees coffee break catering free of charge in designated break rooms.

The University of Helsinki reserves the right to use restaurant and café facilities outside dining and/or opening hours, for example for event and study purposes.

The premises and stationary equipment intended for restaurant and café operations are owned by HYK / UH, and the restaurant operator does not pay rent for them. For this reason, their use for purposes other than those specified in the agreement is not permitted without a separate prior agreement with the university. In these cases, a separately agreed rent or other compensation will be charged for the use of the premises. The restaurant owner may not hand over restaurant premises and equipment for other use without the written permission of the University of Helsinki's contact person.

The campus has a total of 5 student and staff restaurants and/or cafés operating on the premises of the University of Helsinki. There are also plenty of other companies offering restaurant services in the area.
