HRS Husholdning AS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hålogaland Ressursselskap IKS, which is an intermunicipal company. The company was established in 1990 and is currently owned by 8 municipalities in northern Nordland and southern Troms; Harstad, Narvik, Gratangen, Lavangen, Ibestad, Evenes, Tjeldsund and Kvæfjord.
HRS currently collects household waste using a multi-container system.
In parts of the HRS's area of operation, several shared systems will be established. In new housing projects, they will be able to choose between a partially or fully buried system.
There are roughly 29,000 household subscriptions in the region, and of these, approx. 70 % are in urban municipalities. Of the approximately 21,000 subscribers in the urban municipalities, approx. 60 % have their own containers.
