The Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) requires a linear friction welding (LFW) machine and associated accessories to support research projects undertaken by the MTC. The equipment is intended to be used for general research purposes at MTC and as such must be flexible and of a robust design suitable for a production type environment.
The equipment must be compliant to NADCAP accreditation and be capable of welding a variety of component forms e.g. prismatic shapes to complex aerofoil cross sections, from a multitude of industries e.g. aero engines, automotive, marine propulsion and power generation, and out of a variety of materials e.g. steel, titanium and nickel based superalloys, to stringent standards akin to aerospace requirements.
