Description:
Valby Cloudburst Tunnel. TD01. Tunnel and constructions

Cloudburst tunnel to protect Copenhagen and Frederiksberg against flooding in connection with cloudburst events.

The cloudburst tunnel will be established from FLSmidth's car park at Høffdingsvej/Ramsingsvej to an area east of the garden association Musikbyen in Sydhavnen with an outlet in Enghave Kanal. The tunnel will be 2,382 m long and runs from the FLSmidth site to the south under the track, past Grønttorvet and down to Blushøjvej, then the route takes a southeasterly direction under Valby Sports Park and Valbyparken, past Hf. Musikbyen to end at Enghave Canal

The tunnel is drilled approx. 15 - 21 m below ground level in the limestone. The tunnel sections will be drilled from the construction site at Blushøjvej towards FLSmidth and Musikbyen, respectively, and the southernmost section will be drilled from Enghave Canal towards Musikbyen.

Cloudburst tunnel to protect Copenhagen and Frederiksberg against flooding in connection with cloudburst events.

The cloudburst tunnel works by directing water from the wastewater system directly to the tunnel at high water levels in the wastewater system as a result of precipitation events in Frederiksberg West and Valby. In cases where the volume of water supplied does not exceed the capacity of the tunnel, the water will be stored in the tunnel. When there is capacity again in the wastewater system and at the treatment plant, the stored water, via discharge pumps at the bottom of the shaft at Enghave Kanal, will be pumped for treatment at the treatment plant, through the existing sewer system in the area. If the rainfall event exceeds the capacity of the tunnel, the water will be directed to Enghave Kanal.

The cloudburst tunnel will be established from FLSmidth's car park at Høffdingsvej/Ramsingsvej to an area east of the garden association Musikbyen in Sydhavnen with an outlet in Enghave Kanal, which is a wastewater treatment plant.

The existing sewer network is connected to the cloudburst tunnel via structures below ground, the so-called connecting structures. A connection structure will be established at FLSmidth and one at Musikbyen. At Enghave Kanal, an outlet structure and a pumping station will be established, as well as a connection to the existing wastewater system. The pumping station consists of an underground engineering plant with a smaller building above ground.

The tunnel is drilled as three separate tunnels approx. 15 - 21 m below the ground level in the limestone. The tunnel sections will be drilled from the construction site at Blushøjvej towards FLSmidth and Musikbyen, respectively, and the southernmost section will be drilled from Enghave Canal towards Musikbyen.
