The research areas of neuroscience and cognition are among the defined research priorities of the University of Göttingen. The interdisciplinary research center Human Behavior and Cognition (HuCaB) will create a state-of-the-art research infrastructure that will raise research in the field of human cognition at the university to an internationally competitive level. The research focuses on the study of social interactions and their neural correlates.
The experimental platforms form the core of the new research institute. Prototypes of this platform will be further developed by the new building, transferred to daily laboratory operations and supplemented by the necessary imaging procedures. The research approaches place the highest demands on the IT infrastructure and computing capacities, which is why a high-performance GPU cluster provides the basis for the large-scale deployment of machine learning.
The listed existing building houses the Georg Elias Müller Institute for Psychology (GEMI) and will be completely preserved. The single-storey extension and an outbuilding will be dismantled.
Existing space bottlenecks in the GEMI will be solved by the new building and necessary adjustments to current laboratory standards will be made possible.
The planned new building of the HuCaB research centre will develop in a U-shape around the existing building in a northerly and eastern direction. The new building and the existing building together form a ring-shaped building complex.
The new building has a main usable area NUF 1-6 of approx. 3,562 m² and a gross building area of approx. 7,765 m².
