As part of the ERDF 2021-2027 programming, the PHENIX portfolio (TecHnological and aNalytic Platforms of Walloon eXellence in agri-food) is made up of research laboratories from three university institutions in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (ULiège, UMons and ULB) and two approved research centres (CER groupe and CELABOR). It proposes to bring together under a common structure a set of analytical and technological platforms in the field of functional foods, biocontrol and alternative proteins in order to provide companies in the sector with efficient characterization tools and innovative production chains. The main objective of this ERDF portfolio is to acquire state-of-the-art instrumentation, unique in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (measure 3a). The investments in measure 3a in the various partner platforms of the PHENIX portfolio will also be used to implement two ambitious research projects in measure 3b (FoodBooster and Biocontrol). The gathering of remarkable state-of-the-art equipment under the PHENIX dome, accessible to companies, researchers and people undergoing training, clearly responds to the notion of exceptional technological equipment defined by the Walloon Region. 17 instruments, 10 of which are analytical and 7 technological, make up the demand for measure 3a of the PHENIX portfolio. This qualified set of exceptional analytical and technological equipment is quite competitive at the international level, both in terms of the nature and complementarity of the equipment using highly innovative technologies, and in terms of the quality of the scientists and technicians who implement them in an optimal way. The partners were attentive to the complementarity of the equipment requested, the coverage and scope of the instruments, as well as the respect of the expertise specific to the research laboratories associated with PHENIX.
