Provision of Writing and Editing Services and Post-Processing of Visual Material.
The contract includes:
- The correction of the content transmitted by ARTE to the future contractor for the program week: ARTE creates an overview of its program content weekly, called the “ARTE Program Week.” This serves as a press release for ARTE program broadcasts and is also provided as part of the publication ARTE Magazin. The overview includes explanatory editorial texts of varying lengths as well as technical information such as times, lengths, crew information and cast, etc.
- The editing (proofreading and correction) of texts of varying lengths. The different text formats serve as press information for the ARTE program in the “ARTE Program Week” and are published on the press portal presse.arte.tv and on the platform arte.tv.
- The weekly editing of captions and visual material for aired programs, with which ARTE provides German-speaking media in the context of its press work. The editing of visual material includes fact-checking and correction of captions, as well as, if necessary, creating missing captions and correcting some photographs.
The service provider will take on the following tasks:
Text Editing:
- The correction of the content submitted by ARTE for the ARTE Program Week: Weekly, the service provider receives metadata (titles, subtitles, cast and crew information…) and texts (short texts, possibly long and additional texts) for about 70 to 90 programs with a total volume of around 200,000 characters. The parameters to be checked by the service provider relate to spelling, writing of proper names and places, accuracy of the listed facts, compliance with the language standards set by ARTE, and the alignment and standardization of spellings.
- The additional editing of texts of varying lengths: Weekly, the service provider receives original texts for approximately ten programs, which need to be revised and adapted to different text formats. Editing these texts includes: proofreading the texts and adapting them to ARTE language standards and the different text formats (short texts, possibly long and additional texts), as well as checking for content accuracy, spelling, and the alignment and standardization of spellings.
- In exceptional cases (e.g., illness in the ARTE text editing department), the service provider takes over the editing of the texts for the entire “ARTE Program Week” according to ARTE language standards. Text editing includes both proofreading the texts and adjusting them to different text lengths (short texts and possibly long texts), as well as checking for content accuracy and spelling, and the alignment and standardization of spellings.
- The use of AI in text editing is generally permitted. However, this must be done with consideration to ARTE guidelines: Handling of artificial intelligence at ARTE.
The future service provider is requested to inform ARTE about the scope and type of use of AI in text editing. If ARTE adjusts its guidelines for the use of AI, the contractor will be informed and is obliged to comply with the new guidelines.
Image Editing:
- The service provider will receive between 100 and 170 photos weekly, which must be edited within 4 days, as well as about 10 percent of retrospective photos that must be edited within 24 hours.
The service provider's tasks include:
- Correction and integration of the captions created by ARTE into the corresponding IPTC headers, including updating all data and captions, as well as possible additional integration of further data into additional IPTC fields for import into the ARTE database. The parameters to be checked by the service provider pertain to spelling, the writing of proper names and places, the accuracy of the stated facts, and the identity of the individuals depicted in the photos.
- Manual post-processing of the visual material for the ARTE program. Contractor's tasks: coordination and standardization of photos with each other, adjustment to standard formats and resolutions (300 dpi, 25 × 16.5 cm in JPG format), as well as - if available - removal of black formatting bars. In exceptional cases and upon ARTE's request, the service provider performs image optimizations: retouching, enhancing colors and optimizing brilliance and contrasts.
- The use of AI in the processing of visual material and captions is generally permitted. However, this must be done with consideration to ARTE guidelines: Handling of artificial intelligence at ARTE.
The future service provider is requested to inform ARTE about the scope and type of use of AI in the processing of visual material and captions. If ARTE adjusts its guidelines for the use of AI, the contractor will be informed and is obliged to comply with the new guidelines.
