Description:
Conversion of the Koblenz Gate wing at the University of Bonn to provide interim lecture halls and associated facilities during the main building's renovation.

Conversion and repair of the Koblenz Gate wing for the interim use of the lecture halls.

The main building of the University of Bonn is to be completely renovated and university operations completely restructured. Currently, the building complex is used by the university administration as well as three humanities faculties and associated institutes and mainly houses offices and staff rooms, lecture halls, seminar and meeting rooms, libraries, museum areas, an auditorium and the early classicist castle church. The future space requirements of the various university uses will be relocated and organized in the main building and in additional buildings. During the renovation of the main building, interims are required for the continued operation of the University of Bonn.

In its current form, the main building of the university consists of the four-winged, three-storey main wing, the two-storey Kaiserplatz wing, and the east wing. This can be divided into the two-storey Stockentor wing with appendix and the adjoining three-storey Koblenz Gate wing.

In the Koblenz Gate wing, the lecture halls are to be located as interim during the renovation work.

The Koblenz Gate wing was built in the 18th century in the French Baroque period. Despite destruction in the 2nd World War, the outer walls and the vaulted ceiling in the gate above the passage were preserved. All floor ceilings, stairs, interior walls and roofs, as well as parts of the outer walls were rebuilt in the 1950s. The total area of the Koblenz Gate wing amounts to approx. 10,832 m2 GFA. The building is a listed building.

In addition to the interim lecture halls with the work rooms, sanitary facilities, storage rooms and kitchenettes required for use, rooms for the University Museum Bonn are also to be built. In addition, the installation of two passenger elevator systems is planned. Since the core renovation of the main building depends largely on the relocation of the lecture halls, a key project goal is the rapid implementation of the measure.

The conversion measures are scheduled to begin in September 2026 and be completed before the start of construction of the core renovation of the entire main building in November 2028.

The focus is also on a future-proof, heritage-compliant and resource-saving conversion concept for the use of the lecture hall, also with regard to the subsequent use requirements.

The services of technical equipment, object planning and structural planning are to be provided with Building Information Modeling. For this purpose, an as-built measurement (3D laser scan / 3D Revit model) has already been made.

No certification according to BNB is required for this construction project. However, BNB certification "Silver" is being sought for the overall core renovation of the main building at the University of Bonn. To this end, essential goals are to be taken into account as early as the conversion of the interim lecture halls of the Koblenzertor wing.

In accordance with the protection of historical monuments, the goals of an Efficiency House 55 are to be pursued as part of the overall measure.
