The Africa Community Access Programme (AFCAP) is a programme of applied research and knowledge dissemination funded by the UK Government though the Department for International Development (DFID). AFCAP is promoting safe and sustainable rural access in Africa through research and knowledge sharing between participating countries and the wider community. Cardno Emerging Markets (UK) Ltd is contracted by DFID to manage AFCAP.

A 24 month multi-national rural access project will be let, valued at about 500 000 GBP to address ‘climate resilience' and 'climate adaptation' in Africa, focussing on both engineering (including modelling, materials, testing, design, construction and maintenance methods) and transport services (including road safety, affordability, frequency).
