The Highways Agency is looking to set up a contract for the continued supply of kit and consumables for its fleet of approximately 200 vehicles. The contract will ensure that Traffic Officers are supplied with the correct equipment to safely use and deploy in the management of incidents and to maintain vehicles and protective livery in a clean and presentable condition.
Since 2005 the Highways Agency Traffic Officer Service has operated on England's motorway and strategic trunk road network. Their primary role is to clear incidents ensuring that disruption to traffic is kept to a minimum. This can range from supporting motorists who have broken down to assisting police and other emergency services at major incidents. There are currently seven Regional Control Centres across England, each taking responsibility for the strategic road network within their region. The on road Traffic Officers are based at Outstations situated close to motorway junctions across the network. Each Outstation has its own patrol routes with Traffic Officers working 24 hours a day every day of the year.
Traffic Officers work shifts which begin and end at their home Outstation, at the start of each shift the vehicles and kit are checked and replenished from stocks held at the Outstation. Vehicle cleaning products are also held at the outstation to keep the high visibility exterior of the vehicles in good order and the interior a pleasant working environment.
