Description:
Conducting a representative survey in 2023 entitled "What does Germany think about radiation? Survey 2023"

A central component of radiation protection is informing the population about radiation effects and radiation risk as well as about the correct radiation protection behavior. In order to record – as a basis for this task – the social handling of selected radiation topics, the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) has for many years commissioned social science studies on the social and individual handling of selected radiation topics as well as on the perception of risk and information (e.g. on the topics of mobile communications, power grid expansion, UV protection, communication of scientific uncertainties in the field of electromagnetic radiation). fields, knowledge of general practitioners with regard to electromagnetic fields, risk maturity in radiation protection).

The aim of the research project (FV) is to survey the general social anchoring of radiation and radiation protection, the perceptions, knowledge, information needs and experiences of the population in Germany with specific radiation protection topics. This is to be done on the basis of a combination of a qualitative and a quantitative survey representative throughout Germany in order to obtain reliable statements about the population's handling of radiation and radiation protection.

The survey is intended to provide important insights into the environment in which the BfS operates its scientific work and information and communication activities. The results provide impetus for the design of science and risk communication of the BfS and for the design of radiation protection concepts.

The survey is part of a series of surveys that already took place in 2019 and 2021. It is planned to conduct the survey every 2 years.

The project has a duration of 9 months.
