Development for the construction of a prototype plant for the production of fire protection films

The Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) has been active in the fields of renewable energy generation and storage since 1988. With currently 120 employees, the "Electrochemical Energy Technologies" business unit has been researching battery systems for more than 25 years, with a focus on lithium-ion and future systems (post-lithium). The ZSW covers the entire value chain from material, electrode and cell development to production research.

In the ESCO project, solutions for fire protection in technical applications of battery systems are investigated and developed, looking at both film materials and potting materials.

The subject of the tender is the development of a prototype plant for the production of multi-layer fire protection films (sandwich construction) for technical applications based on basic components and raw materials suitable for fire protection.

The intended production of multi-layer fire protection films enables in particular a subsequent addition of additional layers to the finished product. This can mean, for example, the application of additional cover films or adhesive strips. In the development of the production processes and devices, the contractor shall implement a modular design to the extent that subsequent extensions of the prototype system are possible without a complete redesign of the devices.

The aim is to complete the tendered development activities by 31.12.2023.
