The desired benefits are group insurance for the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science. V. (MPG). The MPG is an independent, non-profit research organization that conducts basic research in the fields of natural, biological, human and social sciences in its own institutes. Group accident insurance, group radiation accident insurance and group expedition insurance currently exist.
The insurance cover to be awarded in 2 lots is intended as a group insurance contract with the MPG as the policyholder to automatically insure a changing group of people (without naming names - only a summary view) against accidents, rescue costs / expeditions and radiation accidents (third-party insurance with direct claims).
The retrieval of the insurance is planned for January 1st, 2022.
The object of the award is divided into 2 lots.
- Lot 1 includes group accident insurance and group expedition insurance,
- Lot 2 includes group radiation accident insurance.
Group accident insurance and group expedition insurance5.1.3.1 Group accident insurance:
Are insured
a) employees with permanent or fixed-term contracts,
b) trainees,
c) Dual students,
d) Student and academic assistants,
e) MPG scholarship holders,
f) contractually funded young scientists from third-party funds,
g) self-employed scientists with a work or service contract,
h) interns,
i) Scientists (e.g. (PhD) scientists, doctoral students from other institutions, scholarship holders from other institutions, students, scientific advisors) who are partially involved in the scientific operation of the institute and who have been permitted by a guest and licensing agreement who to use scientific facilities of the institute,
j) Emeritus scientists with emeritus jobs up to the age of 85,
If you (cases aj) are resident in the European Union (EU).
So-called “visitors” are also considered “insured persons”, whereby “visitors” include all those persons who are integrated into the operation of an institute of the MPG for a limited period of time, but who have no employment contract with the MPG and who do not have their place of residence in the Have EU.
The insurance also covers MPG employees on parental leave, nursing leave, paid leave according to Section 7 (1a) SGB IV (up to 3 months), partial retirement or unpaid leave according to Section 7 (3) SGB IV (max. 1 month) who receive sickness benefit, daily sickness benefit, care sickness benefit, injury benefit, transition benefit, care support benefit, maternity benefit or similar benefits. Insured persons can visit all unincorporated institutions of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science e. V. (in Germany this also includes the Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP; financed differently) as well as the following MPG institutions abroad: Bibliotheca Hertziana - Max Planck Institute for Art History, Rome; Art History Institute in Florence - Max Planck Institute, Florence; Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, Nijmegen), the legally independent institutes Max Planck Institute for Iron Research GmbH (EIFO), Max Planck Institute for Coal Research (KOFO) and the Society for Scientific Data Processing mbH Göttingen (GWDG) be active.
It is an automatic group insurance for a changing group of people, ie new people belonging to the group are also insured.
In addition, the insurance cover includes all insured persons at institutes newly added during the term of the contract as well as other unincorporated institutions of the Max Planck Society for the Advancement of Science. V.
The following legally independent research institutions are entitled to use the conditions of the group insurance contract:

- Large Binocular Telescope ("LBT Beteiligungsgesellschaft"), Heidelberg,
- Center of Advanced European Studies and Research (caesar) non-profit foundation under private law, Bonn,
- Ernst Strüngmann Institut gGmbH (ESI), Frankfurt am Main,
- the following institute should be authorized:
Max Planck Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law, Luxembourg.
The legally independent research institutions mentioned above have the conditions and modalities of this. Want to use the group insurance contract to conclude their own group insurance contract as a contractual partner with the successful bidder on the modalities of the conclusion with the MPG. The bidder is obliged to enter into contracts with these institutions on this basis.
The MPG is neither entitled nor obliged by the agreements of these legally independent research institutions, nor is the MPG liable.

Insured risk and benefits
The insurance cover includes radiation accidents.
The insurance cover covers all accidents around the world for insured persons who are resident in the European Union (EU).
There may be no restrictions on the duration of the stay abroad for the insured group of people (e.g. insurance only for stays abroad of up to one year).
For insured persons who are not domiciled in the European Union, there is insurance coverage as a visitor during a temporary stay at an MPI in the European Union (EU).
a) A radiation accident occurs when the insured person involuntarily suffers damage to his health through the effects of external radiation on his or her body or through the incorporation of radioactive substances (accident event).
b) The insurance covers in particular radiation accidents caused by laser beams and maser beams.
c) The incorporation of radioactive substances must have taken place as a result of a certain unforeseen process which the insured person must prove.
The first signs of this damage to health must have been determined within one year of the day of the accident by means of a doctor's certificate, who is authorized by the competent state authority to issue it.
The day of the accident is the time of the event that caused the radiation exposure or the incorporation; If this event extends over several days, the last day applies.
If, after 3 years from the day of the accident, the radiation accident leads to permanent impairment of the physical or mental performance (disability) of the insured person, the insured person is entitled to a lump sum payment from the sum insured for the disability event.
