It concerns the procurement of a long-term archive system from the TU Ilmenau, the University of Erfurt and the University of Jena.

A system for long-term archiving distributed at 3 locations is to be created. This tender only covers the components to be procured at the Ilmenau site. The actual application software for managing and archiving the data is not part of the tender.

The system to be implemented consists of several components:

a. Server hardware for executing the middleware (iRods) and application software,

b. A secondary storage system as a clipboard for data to be archived and (if technically possible) as a cache for the primary storage system,

c. A primary storage system, it is desirable to connect an existing tape library.

The server is used to run the (existing) application software. This accepts data to be archived (from other locations or via a web interface), if necessary, performs format conversions and generates the archives to be stored. The secondary storage system is intended to store the intermediate formats required. The data to be archived is passed on from the application software via iRods via the S3 interface to the actual archive storage system, here referred to as the primary storage system, service specification, long-term storage system, TU Ilmenau. The archived data is made available for retrieval in the opposite way.
