The University of Huddersfield has been awarded a grant from the European Regional Development Fund and Northern Powerhouse for a GBP 1 800 000 project to establish a ‘Smart Rolling Stock Maintenance Research Facility’ (SRSMRF) over a 3-year period. The facility will carry out 4 workstreams:

• maintenance automation and optimisation;

• maintenance depot digital twin;

• RCM data processing and development;

• augmented reality.
